Twelve illegal miners have been detained in Ogun East by agents of the So-Safe Corps, a security organization operated by the Ogun State.
The 12 offenders were reportedly apprehended between September 28 and September 30, “while plundering the State government resources.”
According to Moruf Yusuf, spokesman for So-Safe Corps, the illegal miners were being held at Abeku Adekanmbi Village in Ogun’s Ijebu North Local Government Area.
The 12 were caught, according to Yusuf, “while collecting mineral resources including coal and gold from beneath the ground.”

He said that Soji Ganzallo, the So-Safe Commander, had immediately ordered that the Corps State headquarters in Abeokuta receive reports of the suspects’ initial investigation.
Ganzallo had also directed that other accomplices who escaped through motorbikes be brought to book.
The suspects have since been transferred to the Ijebu Igbo Divisional Police Headquarters for further investigation and likely prosecution, Yusuf stated.
