David Nwogu, a three-year-old kid, passed away while receiving treatment at the Maternal and Child Hospital in the Ajah region of Lagos State, leaving his family in sadness.
It was learned that the victim, who had been admitted to the hospital on Friday, September 23, due to a cough and catarrh, passed away after getting injections.
The victim’s mother, Loveth, claimed in a video that went viral on Wednesday that her son was active before the injections, which caused his death the next day.
She said, “I took my son to the hospital on Friday morning because he had cough and catarrh; he didn’t have a fever or anything, it was just cough and catarrh. The catarrh actually started on Wednesday, but I took him to the hospital just to check for infections since he was about to start school on Monday.

“They ran a test and said he had small pneumonia, infection, and cold, but not malaria. They started treatment and I called my husband that day; he told me my son was no longer coughing and they said he might even be discharged from the hospital soon.
“On Saturday morning, a nurse gave him an injection aside from the ones initially given and he vomited everything he had eaten because he reacted to the drugs. Instead of the nurse changing the injection or even monitoring him on what to do, she didn’t do any of that.
“I asked my son later if he wanted to eat his cereal because he liked it, but he said no. He slept off and I woke him around 4am to eat again but he still didn’t want to eat. I knew he would still eat before the day breaks because he would be hungry.
“Around 7am, the nurse came and said I should get him ready for another injection. I asked the nurse if he could eat his cereal first and immediately my son heard this, he also wanted to eat. But the nurse insisted that he should take the injection. I insisted again, but she remained adamant and gave him the injections. At the fourth injection, my son shouted, ‘Mummy, daddy, my hand,’ that was it. He went cold and died. I lost my son that day.”
Loveth claimed that the nurse who gave the injections vanished after the event when she spoke with our journalist on Wednesday.
She mentioned that the family attorneys were already involved.
The victim’s father said that the government hospital had already reported the occurrence at the Ogombo Police Station while sobbing next to the boy’s body in another footage that our correspondent saw.
I proceeded to the Ogombo Police Station to report all that had transpired, but I was told that they (the hospital) had already reported the event, the man claimed. The DPO was fully informed. No one can explain what happened; all they have been saying is that it was an autopsy.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Akin Abayomi, expressed sympathy to the boy’s family and said that an investigation into the event had begun.

It’s important to remember that the facility’s administration officially reported the occurrence to the ministry, and a facility-level inquiry into the claim and the circumstances surrounding the regrettable incident has since begun.
“In a similar spirit, I’ve asked for an impartial review into the occurrence. We remain steadfast in our commitment to ending preventable newborn, neonatal, and pediatric mortality.
