The Nigeria Police Council (NPC) has confirmed Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP). The confirmation was made during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, following his appointment as acting IGP by President Bola Tinubu on February 24, 2026, after Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation.
Disu, is expected to serve a four-year term as IGP, subject to confirmation by the Senate. He has a strong background in policing, having served as Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory, and as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit.
The confirmation comes as Nigeria grapples with multifaceted security challenges, and Disu’s leadership is expected to bring stability and continuity to the Nigeria Police Force. He has vowed to enforce zero tolerance for corruption, human rights abuses, and impunity within the Force.
