The Federal Government has again ordered the National Taskforce on Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition, Light Weapons, Chemical Weapons and Pipeline Vandalism (NATFORCE) and other similar security outfits to immediately end their operations nationwide.
Briefing newsmen on Thursday after the National Security Council Meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja, Ministers of Interior Rauf Aregbeshola and Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi, said security agencies will soon carry out a major crackdown on an illegal security outfit, National Taskforce for flouting Federal Government order.
The Federal Government had in June 2021 declared NATFORCE as an illegal security outfit and directed it t o end its operations throughout the country.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Senate had passed into law the Bill establishing the National Commission for the Coordination and Control of the Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons while the House of Representatives is expected to pass its version upon resumption in September 2022.
