The Nigerian Navy Ship NNS BEECROFT says it has handed over 72 bags of cannabis sativa, weighing 2,880 kilograms, and four suspects to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
In a statement made available to Newsflash 247, the operation took place on August 25, 2024, after NNS BEECROFT’s Quick Response Team intercepted the illicit consignment at Lekki Beach, Lagos, based on actionable intelligence.
The arrested individuals include 3 Ghanaians, Godswill Zevor, Monday Kpomeja, and Gbega Agbeko, along with one Beninese national, Elugbe Philip.
Commander NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Rafiu Taye Oladejo, represented by Captain Mutalib Raji, emphasized that the successful operation aligns with the strategic directive of Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla to ensure a secure maritime environment for economic activities.
Captain Raji also reaffirmed Nigerian Navy’s commitment to combating drug trade, warning criminal elements to desist from such activities, as the Navy remains vigilant in safeguarding national security and the well-being of its youth.
