The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, and the National Counter Terrorism Centre, NCTC, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, to combat drug abuse and terrorism.
Disclosing this on its X handle, the agency said the MoU is to prevent the use of counterfeit medicines, curb drug abuse, and fight terrorism.
It was disclosed that the MoU is part of a national effort to reduce illegal drug trade, prevent violent extremism, and manage hazardous chemicals that could be exploited by non-state actors.
According to the statement, the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye highlighted the importance of the partnership in saving lives and preventing drug-related crimes.
On his part, the NCTC Coordinator, Major-General Adamu Garba Laka, emphasised the collaboration’s role in boosting information sharing, joint operations, and intelligence cooperation to combat terrorism effectively.
“This partnership underscores both Agencies’ commitment to safeguarding public health, national security, and preventing the misuse of drugs and chemicals in Nigeria,“ the statement concluded.
