The National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR), says it is offering free registration to hospitality and tourism industry personnel from Dec. 1, to Jan. 15, 2025.
Dr Abisoye Fagade, Director General of NIHOTOUR, made this known at a media chat in Lagos.
Fagade described the gesture as a surprise early Christmas gift to all personnel in the industry.
According to him, the mandate of NIHOTOUR is to identify, register, certify, train and retrain all the personnel of hospitality and tourism.
“We are starting with the national registration of all hospitality and tourism personnel, free of charge, from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15.”
The DG, therefore, called on all personnel working with hotels, nightclubs, wether as a waiter, room cleaner, manager, tourism outfits, tour guides among others, to go on the institute’s website and register for free.
He said: “anyone who does not register between Dec. 1, 2024 and Jan. 15, 2025, will pay for the registration afterwards.
Fagade explained that it was a way of identifying all the personnel working in the industry and having a proper data in order to plan adequately.
“We are not asking anybody for a dime. All we want is for us to identify them, thereby registering at no cost during the stipulated date.
The newly appointed DG vowed to bring standard to NIHOTOUR.
“In my tenure, we will make sure that we bring standard and sanity to the industry.
Fagade reaffirmed NIHOTOUR’s dedication to its mandate of building a skilled and globally competitive workforce in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
He expressed his readiness to align NIHOTOUR’s programs with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, under the leadership of Mrs Hannatu Musa Musawa
The DG noted that the strategic objectives is to create opportunities for economic diversification, job creation, and sustainable growth.
