In a significant milestone for security and community engagement, the Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, has officially commissioned the Zonal Scorpion Squad Base in Odan Otun, Itele, Awori Kingdom, Ogun State. The strategic launch marks a pivotal step in enhancing tactical operations and fostering robust security presence within the region.
At the commissioning ceremony, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, commended the Itele community for the successful completion of the structure within an impressive three-month timeline. The facility, built through collective community effort, stands as a testament to the deepening relationship between the police and residents of the area. The AIG praised the traditional rulers and local leaders for their unwavering support in bringing the vision to life, stressing the importance of maintaining professionalism and respect for human rights among police officers who will operate from the new base.
The newly commissioned tactical base, under the auspices of Zone 2, is set to serve as a hub for enhanced public safety, proactive policing, and rapid response to security challenges in the area and beyond. It reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to strengthening operational capacity while building community trust.
Speaking on behalf of the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, ACP Felix Adaramola of the Ogun State Police Command Operations Department emphasized the Commissioner’s appreciation to the Itele community for accommodating the new tactical unit. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to reducing crime to the barest minimum while fostering a secure and peaceful environment.
The Area Commander of Ota Area Command, ACP Shola Oladele, also welcomed dignitaries, traditional leaders, and stakeholders to the inauguration ceremony. She described the new facility as more than just a structure. She described it as a symbol of trust, justice, and shared responsibility. She highlighted that the tactical base would enhance professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery, setting a standard for how law enforcement facilities should function in service of the people. The structure is expected to deepen police-community relations and reinforce the mission of justice and security.
In his goodwill remarks, the Olota Of Ota, Oba (Prof) Adeyemi Obalanlege described the Onitele as a loving traditional ruler whose tenure has brought progress and development, not only to the ancient town of Itele but also Aworiland.
Responding, the Onitele of Itele Kingdom, Oba Musiliu Ademola Eletu (Asorotalaya I), described the commissioning as a memorable moment in the community’s journey toward greater security. He acknowledged the significant decline in crime rates since the deployment of the current Area Commander and pledged the continued support of the community in ensuring peace, safety, and lawfulness throughout Itele Awori Kingdom.
The event brought together traditional rulers, council of chiefs, baales, community development associations, security stakeholders, and law enforcement officials, underscoring a shared commitment to collaboration in securing lives and property. The establishment of the Zonal Scorpion Squad Base stands as a forward looking initiative that integrates grassroots participation into Nigeria’s broader security architecture.
