Officers of the Ogun State Police Command have undergone a two-day training on Gender-Based Violence and Post-Violence Care organised by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development with APIN Public Health Initiative.
Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Adebimpe Folusho Obienu, said the programme aims to equip officers as first responders with survivor-centred, rights-based skills for handling GBV cases, including safe referrals, evidence preservation and post-violence care. The training covered GBV forms, drivers and myths, relevant laws including the VAPP Act 2015, interviewing techniques, confidentiality and privacy.
The second day focused on clinical pathways, including urgent assessment and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis within 72 hours, response to child survivors and intimate partner violence, coordination with Sexual Assault Referral Centres, Family Support Units and Gender Units, plus practical exercises on disclosure, risk assessment and documentation. The Command under CP Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed commitment to continuous retraining and professional, survivor-centred policing.
