The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has underscored the importance of effective record keeping and data management as critical tools for enhancing operational efficiency, strengthening strategic decision-making and ensuring accountability within the Nigerian Army.
In a statement issued by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the COAS, represented by the Deputy Director General, Nigerian Army Future Heritage and Future Centre (Army), Major General Philip Eromosele, made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Army Headquarters Department of Military Secretary Data Management and Record-Keeping Seminar 2025, held at the Armed Forces Officers’ Mess, Asokoro, Abuja. The three-day seminar, with the theme “Effective Data Management and Record Keeping: A Key Element in Ensuring a Professional Nigerian Army in a Digital Era,” reflects the Army’s commitment to embracing modern approaches to data management in line with contemporary operational demands.
General Oluyede emphasized that accurate data management and efficient record keeping are vital for monitoring progress, identifying gaps and responding effectively to emerging security challenges. He further highlighted the need to adopt the highest standards in data storage and document security across all formations and units to drive efficiency and sustain professionalism.
Reaffirming the Army’s dedication to its constitutional mandate, the COAS assured that the Nigerian Army remains unwavering in its resolve to safeguard Nigeria’s security and unity, while maintaining loyalty to the Constitution of the Federal Republic and to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Military Secretary (Army), Major General Everest Okoro, stated that the seminar was designed to promote excellence in data management and record-keeping practices, aligning the Army with global best practices and advancing its adaptation to evolving technological trends. He also expressed gratitude to the COAS for his visionary leadership in driving the Department toward its objectives.
