IKORODU WEST LCDA LIGHTS UP CHRISTMAS WITH FOOD RELIEF FOR 5,000 HOUSEHOLDS

In a season defined by giving and shared humanity, Ikorodu West LCDA stood out as a model of people focused governance as the Executive Chairman, Hon. (Otunba) Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO), led a large-scale food distribution exercise that brought relief and cheer to thousands of residents. On December 18th, 2025, the Council Secretariat came alive with activity as over 5,000 households received quality bags of rice, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to ensuring that no family is left behind during the festive season.

In a statement released by the Media Unit, Office of the Executive Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, the intervention was described as a deliberate and compassionate response to the economic realities facing many families, particularly during the Christmas period when food security becomes a pressing concern for households across the community.

The outreach carried an unmistakable emotional resonance. Elderly residents, young people and other vulnerable members of the LCDA were seen receiving their food items with gratitude, smiles and prayers. For many, the gesture went beyond material support, serving as a reassurance that their government is attentive, responsive and present at the grassroots.

Addressing the gathering, Otunba Sulaimon Olanrewaju explained that the initiative reflects the new opportunities created by the financial autonomy granted to local governments nationwide. According to him, the autonomy has strengthened the capacity of councils to directly impact lives, translating policy decisions into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

He further noted that residents should see the food items as a symbolic Christmas gift made possible by the autonomy policy championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stressing that such a far-reaching intervention would have been difficult to achieve under the previous funding structure for local governments.

The exercise underscored a growing alignment between federal vision and local execution, where national reforms empower community level leadership to deliver real dividends of democracy. With the visible support of Lagos State Governor, H.E. Olusola Babajide Sanwo-Olu and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Ikorodu West administration reaffirmed its resolve to place people at the heart of governance.
