Doxa Health Foundation provided free Hepatitis screenings, vaccinations, and referrals to over 1,110 residents of Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, Abuja, from 28 July, 2025 to 24 Jan. 2026.
The outreach, which targeted both civilians and military personnel, aimed to raise awareness and offer life saving intervention against hepatitis B and C.
Miss Glory Akawu, Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to Akawu, Hepatitis B remains a silent epidemic in Nigeria, often undetected until it causes irreversible liver damage.
“Hepatitis is a silent killer. It damages the liver and compromises its vital functions.
“By offering free testing, vaccinations, and referrals, we hope to empower people to detect and treat the infection early,” she said.
The Founder said Hepatitis outreach at Mogadishu Cantonment, Asokoro, began on World Hepatitis Day, July 28, 2025, marking the start of a sustained public health intervention by Doxa Health Foundation.
“During the initial outreach, the Foundation provided free hepatitis screening, vaccination, and treatment referrals to over 1,110 residents, identifying 31 individuals who tested positive for hepatitis.
“Following the diagnosis, a number of those who tested positive were successfully linked to treatment and management.
“Their treatment journey has progressed remarkably well, with beneficiaries reporting improved health, renewed hope, and visible joy as they continue to respond positively to care.
“To ensure complete protection for eligible participants, the Foundation carried out a second vaccination exercise on Aug. 27, 2025, during which over 856 residents were attended to through continued vaccination and follow-up,” she said.
Glory Akawu said that the intervention concluded with the third inoculation exercise on the 24 Jan 26, where 715 individuals received their final dose, completing the full Hepatitis B vaccination schedule.
“The outreach ended on a high note, as beneficiaries could not contain their excitement upon receiving free full protection against the Hepatitis B virus,” she said
The Founder however, expressed gladness because most families and individuals understand the need to be vaccinated and mobilize others for the same course.
“I encountered huge challenges on this journey, but it’s with great joy that this location vaccination has ended.
“Overall, Mogadishu Cantonment outreach demonstrates a comprehensive, phased approach moving from awareness and diagnosis to follow-up, treatment linkage, and complete vaccination, resulting in measurable and lasting impact within the community,” she said.
