Road users and traders along the Sango Motor Park axis of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway have expressed concerns over the pace of the ongoing road rehabilitation, while calling for sustained efforts to ease movement and restore normal commercial activities in the area.
Many commuters and business owners noted that the reconstruction work, though ongoing, has impacted traffic flow and economic activities along the corridor. They appealed for a more accelerated approach to ensure timely completion, given the strategic importance of the route.
Some traders observed that work schedules appear irregular at times, which may be contributing to the slower progress being experienced. However, they acknowledged the complexities involved in large-scale infrastructure projects and the need for coordinated efforts among all stakeholders.
A transport union member at the park, Rahmon, explained that traffic challenges have affected patronage, as some drivers now avoid the area due to congestion. He, however, commended the consistent intervention of security personnel in maintaining order and preventing a total breakdown of movement.
Residents and commuters also highlighted the role of the police in traffic management, noting that senior officers, including the Area Commander, have remained visible in supervising and directing traffic, especially during peak periods.
Joshua Apoga, a resident in the area, described the situation as demanding improved coordination, particularly in traffic control during construction. He emphasized that the road remains a vital link for thousands of daily users.
Traders operating near the Sango Garage said partial road closures have affected accessibility to their shops, especially during rainfall when movement becomes more difficult. They expressed hope that ongoing efforts would soon ease the situation.
Community stakeholders, including youth representatives, called for enhanced efforts by the contractors, to ensure smoother vehicular movement while work continues.
