Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Johnson Elleh for creating and sharing a viral video that falsely alleged kidnapping and bandit attacks along the Owode-Idiroko axis. After the clip surfaced, police verified the claims and confirmed no such incident occurred in Owode-Idiroko or surrounding communities. Detectives identified the suspect from the video, and he admitted during questioning that he staged the content for online engagement and public attention. The investigation is ongoing and he will be arraigned after conclusion.
The Command condemned the act, warning that spreading fake security alerts and misinformation causes panic, disrupts order, and weakens public confidence in security agencies. It issued a stern warning to anyone creating, posting, or recirculating unverified security content, stating it constitutes a threat to public peace and will be met with prosecution under the law. Police said offenders will be tracked, arrested, and charged irrespective of their intent or social status.
Residents were reassured that Ogun State remains safe and secure, and urged to stay calm while relying only on official updates from verified channels.
