Lagos State Police Command has arrested 10 Cameroonian nationals, 5 men and 5 women, for alleged visa fraud and human trafficking. The syndicate lured fellow Cameroonians to Nigeria with promises of visas, work permits and residency in Mauritius, Canada, UK and US. Victims paid millions of naira for travel documents that never came. Police said several suspects had no valid passports or visas, raising questions about their entry into Nigeria.
The group posed as a networking business but used social media to stage fake relocation content at airports and luxury spots to deceive recruits. Victims were coached on scripts for family and friends to bring in more people. One victim paid 800,000 CFA, about N2 million, after being told to process her Mauritius visa in Lagos. She was taken to a hotel, then a residence in Epe where her phone and documents were seized and she was forced to recruit others. Another victim said she paid about 1.5 million CFA, roughly N3.5 million, for a Mauritius passport and work permit, only to be trained on recruitment instead.
CP Fatai Tijani has transferred the case from Egbeda Tactical Unit to SCID Panti, Yaba for deeper investigation under DCP Dayo Akinbisehin. Police said the cross-border fraud case is ongoing and warned the public to verify overseas job and visa offers, and report suspicious recruitment schemes to the nearest police station.
