The Murtala Muhammed International Airport Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, on Monday held a walk to mark the United Nations Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. The walk started at 7:30 a.m. from the NAHCO Complex, headquarters of the command. Officers of sister agencies including the Nigeria Police and Nigeria Customs Service joined the exercise.
Commander Ahmad Muhammad Tukur addressed participants at the end of the walk and thanked them for turning out in support of the campaign. He urged them to take the anti-drug message to their families, friends, and communities to help build a drug-free society. He said the annual observance was an opportunity to reinforce awareness and collective responsibility in the fight against drug abuse.
Tukur noted that beyond arrests, seizures, and convictions, NDLEA is also mandated to educate and sensitize the public on the dangers of drug abuse. He stressed that prevention through enlightenment remains key to reducing demand for illicit drugs and protecting youths from falling victim. The commander called for stronger collaboration among security agencies, stakeholders, and the public to sustain the campaign.
