A coalition of civil society organizations has rejected allegations of corruption and bias against Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, AIG Olohundare Moshood Jimoh, in connection with the investigation into the murders of Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Ademola Akinloye in Ajiran, Lagos State. Speaking on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the group led by the Centre for Human and Socio-Economic Rights (CHSR) said a “coordinated campaign” was attempting to distort facts and portray prime suspect Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi as a victim. The CSOs noted that following a January 2026 petition by the Ojomu Chieftaincy Family, the IGP directed a review which AIG Jimoh carried out, leading to arrests, eyewitness testimony, confessional statements, and the lawful extradition of Akanbi through INTERPOL and valid court orders.
The coalition commended AIG Jimoh for professionalism and adherence to due process, describing the allegations against him as “baseless, reckless and intentionally misleading.” However, it raised concerns over reported unprofessional conduct by some operatives of the Delta Force Unit at SCID Panti and called on the IGP to investigate DCP Dayo Akinbisehin and officers of D9 and D4 units. The group also urged the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to speak on the matter and demanded that retired officers, including CSP Yetunde Cardoso (rtd.) and CSP Ejiofor, be restrained from interfering in the case.
The CSOs further demanded immediate clarification on the custodial status of Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi, alleging non-compliance with court orders for his remand at Ikoyi Custodial Centre, and called on the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Lagos Chief Judge to intervene. “Justice must be served for Sheriff Ishola Salami and Prince Ademola Akinloye,” the coalition stated, adding that no suspect should evade accountability and that law enforcement must operate free from intimidation. The statement was signed by leaders of CHSR, CACL, CPCHR, Mekunukoya, and other rights groups.
