The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, has commissioned the newly remodeled and fully furnished Headquarters 55 Signals Brigade Complex at 81 Division, Victoria Island, Lagos. The upgraded facilities include the Brigade Commander’s Office, Orderly Room, and other administrative offices designed to provide a more conducive and professional working environment for officers and soldiers.
Speaking at the commissioning, Major General Babalola said the project reflects the Chief of Army Staff’s “Soldier First” philosophy, which prioritizes personnel welfare. He noted that functional infrastructure improves productivity, boosts morale, and strengthens operational effectiveness. He commended the Commander 55 Signals Brigade, Brigadier General C.O. Iyere, for his vision and commitment, and urged commanders across the Nigerian Army to initiate projects that leave lasting legacies. He also charged officers and soldiers to maintain the facilities and uphold a strong maintenance culture.
Goodwill messages were delivered by former Commander Corps of Signals, Major General N.C. Ugbo (Rtd.), Commander Corps of Engineers, Major General S.T. Shafaru, and the FOC Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral A.A. Mustapha, who all described the project as a reflection of visionary leadership. Representing CSR partners, Mr. Emmanuel Oko-Oboh of Chevron Nigeria Limited called it a celebration of professionalism and operational excellence. Earlier, Brigadier General Iyere said the vision for the transformation began over 20 years ago when he served in the office as a Lieutenant, and he thanked the GOC, troops, and partners for their support. The ceremony was attended by senior military officers, security chiefs, corporate partners, and officials of the U.S. Consulate Lagos.
