Access Bank Plc has described a shutdown notice impersonating its official handle and circulating on social media and WhatsApp as false and misleading. The Bank reassured customers, partners, stakeholders and the public that it remains safe, financially strong, and fully operational across all subsidiaries, with services running seamlessly.
Management said it is working with relevant regulatory and law enforcement agencies to identify those behind the false information intended to cause panic and business disruption. It noted that appropriate legal action will be taken, and reminded the public that creating and spreading false information capable of causing public alarm or damaging institutional reputation is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.
The Bank urged members of the public to disregard and not forward the fake message, and to rely only on information from Access Bank’s official and verified channels. Management thanked customers, partners and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence in Access Bank.
