The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of FCID Annex Lagos, AIG Simeon Akpanudom, has pledged the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to deeper collaboration with NAFDAC in combating the circulation of fake and substandard regulated products.
Speaking during a courtesy visit to the NAFDAC Directorate of Investigation and Enforcement in Lagos, where he was received by Director Dr. Martins Iluyomade, the AIG lauded the existing working relationship between both agencies. He announced a proposed training for NAFDAC officials by a five-member FCID Annex team headed by DCP (Dr) Agbo, CP Forensic, covering forensics, investigative techniques, and enforcement against counterfeit food, drugs, beverages and cosmetics. He also asked that FCID officers be included in the programme, stressing that knowledge-sharing is key to tackling emerging crimes.
Dr. Iluyomade welcomed the initiative, describing the training curriculum as timely and in line with NAFDAC’s goal of strengthening professionalism and operational capacity. He said the training is scheduled to begin in Lagos in the coming weeks, and the inclusion of police investigators will enhance intelligence sharing and prosecution of offenders. Both agencies agreed that evolving criminal networks make joint action more critical. The visit ended with NAFDAC celebrating the AIG’s birthday, and AIG Akpanudom presenting a commemorative plaque to the Directorate to mark the growing partnership in support of public health and national security.
