The Nigeria Police Force will host the International Youth Day (IYD) 2026 – National Youth Leadership & Security Initiative from 20th to 22nd August, 2026, at the Nigeria Police Resource Centre, Jabi, Abuja. Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, said similar activities will be held simultaneously across Zonal and State Commands nationwide.
With the UN theme _“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations,”_ the programme is designed as a preventive policing platform to promote youth leadership, entrepreneurship, innovation, digital responsibility and peaceful civic participation. Activities lined up include Youth Leadership Dialogues, Police–Youth Engagement Sessions, panel discussions, innovation showcases, a Peace and Security Walkathon, sports, the _“Plant Peace. Grow Nigeria. Secure the Future.”_ tree planting drive, Youth Honours and Awards, and the launch of _Esteemed Youths_, a national youth reorientation resource, on 22nd August.
Two national campaigns will also be unveiled: _“My Future Is Greater Than Political and Digital Thuggery”_ to discourage electoral and online violence, and _“Think Before You Click. Verify Before You Share.”_ to tackle misinformation, deepfakes and cyberbullying.
The Police Force is calling on MDAs, development partners, diplomatic missions, youth groups, schools, CSOs, faith-based organisations and the private sector to participate. Stakeholders who received earlier invites should note the updated dates.
