The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, has assured NAFDAC of full security support as the Agency extends its enforcement against alcoholic drinks packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml. The assurance came when the State Coordinator of NAFDAC Ogun Office 1, Mr. Akinwale Fagoroye, led a delegation to the Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, to discuss inter-agency cooperation on the ongoing exercise.
Mr. Fagoroye said the enforcement, which started in Abeokuta, will continue across Ogun State until full compliance is achieved. He explained that the ban is aimed at protecting public health and limiting easy access to cheap, portable alcohol, especially by children and young people. NAFDAC teams are currently conducting checks in markets, motor parks, bars, warehouses, factories and retail outlets, and are also empowered to act against fake, unregistered, substandard, expired or wrongly labelled regulated products.
CP Ojajuni commended NAFDAC for the initiative and said the Police are simultaneously enforcing the Liquor Act and other laws regulating the sale and distribution of alcohol in the state to prevent practices that endanger public safety. He urged manufacturers, distributors, sellers and consumers to comply with regulations and cooperate with enforcement officers, and called on residents to report suspected fake or unsafe products and illegal alcohol sales. The Police, he added, will continue to work with NAFDAC to safeguard the health and well-being of Ogun residents.
