LAGOS — The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Thursday paid a historic visit to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba, to honour 24 officers who retired after 35 years of service. In a goodwill message, the IGP congratulated the retirees for their dedication to the Nigeria Police Force and the nation, saying their years of sacrifice and commitment would continue to be valued. He assured them that retirement from active service did not mean leaving the police family, and wished them fulfilment in the next chapter of their lives.
Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID, Dayo Akinbisehin, described the event as a milestone for the Command, noting that the retirees represented decades of bravery and unwavering duty in investigating complex and high-profile cases. He commended their families as the “unsung heroes” behind their service and thanked the Lagos CP, Fatai Tijani, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and corporate partners for supporting the ceremony. Akinbisehin urged the retirees to remain proud of their contributions, adding that the Force would always remain their home.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, DSP Benson Emuerhi said policing was about service to humanity and called for improved welfare and remuneration to boost officers’ effectiveness. ASP Udoh Patrick, who also retired after 35 years, urged serving officers to relate with the public with humility, honesty and respect, and appealed to citizens to see police as partners in security. DSP Rita Momah, who served in Lagos for about 35 years, expressed joy at retiring and said her years in the Force gave her valuable lessons and the opportunity to contribute to society.
