LAGOS — The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted two UK shipments of synthetic cannabis “Colorado” and recovered more consignments hidden in music speakers at Lagos motor parks, with at least seven suspects arrested.
At the MMIA import shed, operatives seized 27 parcels of Colorado weighing 32.20kg. A real estate agent, Abideen Jide Salami, was arrested on 9 September 2026 after presenting a collection code sent from the UK to claim the luggage. In a related operation, Nurudeen Abiodun Kadiri, 44, was arrested as the recipient of another 12.25kg UK consignment. At Maza Maza park, a speaker rigged with three packs of Colorado en route to Abidjan and Liberia was intercepted, leading to the arrest of tour agent Ifeanyi Obed Augustine, 41, and owner Obasi Ugochuckwu, 46. At Iddo park on 11 September, Ifeanyi Nwokolo Henry was caught attempting to send 2.1kg of Colorado to Kano.
In nationwide raids, NDLEA also seized 785,000 Pregabalin capsules weighing 669.425kg from Saidu Adamu, 20, in Kano’s Sabon Gari, and 1,700 diazepam tablets hidden in bread from Habibu Sabitu, 28, on the Zaria–Kano–Hadejia road. In Jos, Chinedu Uzor, 51, was arrested with 157,100 tramadol capsules. In Delta, Emeka Oji and Chukwuebuka Anedi were picked up with pentazocine, codeine, tramadol, diazepam, hypnox and Molly concealed in speakers. In Edo, 4,832.56kg of skunk was destroyed on farms in Ovia South West, Owan East and Owan West with Sunday Segun, 39, arrested. Other busts include 186kg of skunk in Akure from Paul Ogbuwala, 58; 369.6kg of cannabis in Kaduna from Hannah Michael; and 876kg of cannabis in Bayelsa from four suspects including 70-year-old Godwoman Gboriye.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended DOGI, MMIA, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Kaduna, Plateau, Bayelsa and Kano Commands for the operations. He urged sustained pressure on drug pipelines at airports, seaports, borders and farms, and noted ongoing WADA sensitisation in schools, colleges and communities nationwide.
