IFO — The Ogun State Police Command says operatives of Ifo Division have recovered a stolen 2016 Toyota Camry from a hotel in Ifo and arrested one suspect in under eight hours of receiving the report.
The car belongs to an Indian businessman based at Ilupeju Industrial Estate, Lagos. Police said the driver, Waidi Olaide Kolawale, who was hired just two days earlier, allegedly drove off on 9 September 2026 after telling his employer he was going to a vulcaniser. The vehicle was later electronically tracked to Ifo. DPO Ifo Division, CSP Kamorudeen Olabisi, led surveillance and anti-robbery teams who located it at a hotel around 8:30pm. Kolawale allegedly fled with the ignition key when police arrived, while his alleged accomplice, Monday Adetunji, was arrested. Preliminary investigation revealed the suspects had tried to get a mechanic to remove the car’s catalyst but were turned down. The vehicle has been secured as efforts continue to arrest the fleeing suspect.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni commended the division for its swift, intelligence-driven response and urged vehicle owners to install trackers and use steering and tyre locks. He also advised the public to be cautious about who they entrust with vehicles and property, and called on hoteliers to strengthen guest verification and report suspicious activity.
