The General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. Babalola Adebayo, has urged defence correspondents to strengthen partnership with the military to ensure balanced and accurate reporting of security operations.
Receiving the Association of Defence Correspondents of Nigeria (ADCON) at the division’s headquarters, Adebayo said the media remains a key partner and urged journalists to seek clarification before publishing misleading reports. “You are one of the most important sectors that we, the military, must partner with. Balancing reportage is very key. Bad news goes faster,” he said, noting that negative reports often linger even after situations improve.
The GOC, who said security has improved tremendously in the last three to four months, assured that senior officers would be made available to interface with journalists, while ADCON Chairman Philip Nwosu reaffirmed commitment to accurate reporting and accountability.
