Teachers across Ikeja gathered for the 2026 World Teachers’ Day themed “Standing with Teachers: 60 Years of Protecting the Profession, Advancing its Status and Shaping Our Future,” which came alive when Mother of the Day, Dr. Yeye Folashade Shona Aluko, made an elegant entrance in white to a rousing welcome and later danced with teachers.

The mood turned reflective when Chief Dr. Dayo Banjo, Baasegun of Aguda, Lagos, urged parents and teachers to watch their children and students closely over alleged cases of youths selling body organs for money, saying “They should be on the alert and watch their students” and “Don’t let your child go and sell something from his or her own body,” while recalling a recent incident on his street.

In her charge, Aluko, a former teacher herself, urged teachers to stay committed, describing them as second parents, and to teach culture and respect to address rising indiscipline, noting “Continue to work. One day, God will single you out,” as she celebrated them with music, dance and bags of rice.
