In a major anti-smuggling feat, the Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun I Command, has rescued three live pangolins concealed in sacks at Abeokuta waterside.
The patrol team, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the animals after suspected traffickers abandoned them and fled. The pangolins were found tightly bound in wire mesh cages inside sacks, pointing to an organised wildlife smuggling ring.
Ag Controller, Deputy Compt. Abdulhamid Ibrahim, formally handed over the endangered species to Green Fingers Wildlife Conservation for care and eventual release. He reminded the public that pangolins are protected under Nigerian law and CITES, with offenders liable to N12 million fine and up to 10 years jail, warning smugglers that the Command remains battle-ready against wildlife crime.
