In compliance with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, on Thursday, 22nd October, 2026, held a general lecture for officers and men of the Command at the POWA Hall, GRA, Ikeja.

The lecture brought together Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Tactical Commanders, Heads of Departments and officers from various divisions, units and sections of the Command.

Addressing the officers, CP Fatai reiterated the IGP’s directives on handling complaints against Police personnel, particularly allegations of brutality, extortion, unlawful arrest and detention.

He charged officers to uphold the rule of law, respect human rights, discharge duties lawfully and maintain public confidence, warning that misconduct would attract disciplinary action and that supervisory officers would be held accountable for the conduct of their personnel.

The CP specifically warned tactical teams against extortion, brutality, intimidation, incivility and other dishonest practices, directing commanders to ensure professionalism, restraint and respect for citizens’ rights, and to ensure operational responsibilities are not used to exploit or harass the public.

On social media, he directed all personnel to comply strictly with the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy, warning that inappropriate online conduct capable of undermining the Force’s image would attract sanctions for erring officers and their supervisors.

On cultism, he urged officers to intensify efforts to combat the menace, stressing that arrests must be lawful and in accordance with due process, with arrest by proxy and arrest without lawful justification prohibited.

He also emphasised safeguarding the lives and welfare of suspects in custody, directing close supervision and humane treatment throughout detention.

Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, CP Fatai charged officers to remain neutral and professional, to closely monitor electioneering campaigns and provide adequate security to maintain peace and public order.

He further urged personnel to stay informed about local and international developments, continually improve professional capacity and remain vigilant to threats affecting security in Lagos State, while upholding the highest standards of integrity, impartial enforcement of the law and respect for citizens’ rights.
