The National President of the Police Officers’ Wives Association, Chief Mrs. Olufunmilola Disu, has urged the Nigeria Police to integrate mental healthcare into its welfare system.
Delivering a goodwill message at the Mental Health Conference Nigeria 2026 themed “From Awareness to Action,” Disu said the trauma officers face on duty often follows them home, affecting spouses and children.
She called for accessible counselling, stigma-free support systems and workplace policies that encourage officers and families to seek help early, saying mental wellness is vital to effective policing and national wellbeing.
