The Lagos State Police Command has clarified the trending video of RRS patrol vehicle ‘RRS Attack 07’ driving against traffic, saying the movement is permissible under emergency and operational circumstances when responding to distress calls, pursuing suspects or undertaking urgent security operations.
The Command said the team, led by an Inspector, was detailed by the Control Room following distress calls from motorists trapped in traffic to clear obstruction and restore flow, and had to navigate through the opposite lane to access the point of origin. The action, in line with Regulation 158 of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2012, was a deliberate operational decision in public interest, not disregard for traffic rules.
While open to legitimate scrutiny, Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai condemned the harassment, obstruction and deliberate road blockade by individuals seen in the video, describing it as infringement on other road users’ rights and obstruction under Section 98 of the Police Act 2020, warning content creators against provoking officers for sensational content.
