On Friday, the Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit that sought to force the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to zone its presidential candidate nomination to the nation’s South East Geopolitical Zone.
The lawsuit was dismissed by the court on the grounds that it lacked jurisdiction to hear it in a unanimous decision read by Justice Adamu Jauro.
The lawsuit was brought by Cosmos Ndukwe, a PDP presidential candidate and former deputy speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly.
He had prayed for an order to compel the PDP to uphold its zoning and rotatory policy.
Ndukwe, specifically, sought an order of the court to compel the PDP to zone the nomination of its presidential candidate to the South East Geopolitical Zone.
However, Justice Jauro held that the suit was not justiciable on the ground that the nomination of candidates for election is an internal affair of political parties. (NAN)
