The re-adoption of standard designations for career officers in the local government system has been accepted by Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola.
With the approval, heads of department are now considered directors, and the Head of Local government administration is the highest-ranking career officer in the Local government system.
This information was provided in a statement signed by the state’s head of service, Oyebade Olowogboyega, who also stated that the Local Government Service Commission and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs had each received circulars to that effect for swift execution.
According to him: “In consonance with the new Osun State Local Government Law 2022, passed by the House of Assembly and signed into law by the Governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola, adopting Presidential system of Government in the Local Government Councils in Osun State, Mr Governor has equally approved the re-adoption of the position of Head of Local Government Administration as the most senior career officer in the Local Government system and Directors as Heads of Department in the Local Government system.

“A circular to that effect has been issued to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and the Local Government Service Commission for prompt implementation.
“Mr Governor appreciates all Local Government workers and enjoins them to continue to serve the state diligently in total quality service delivery.
“He promised all workers and the people of the state that their welfare and security will always be the primary purpose of his administration”, the statement read.
