As the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission OSIEC) organised local government election in the state got under way on Saturday, low voter turnout was seen in several parts of Osogbo.

Recall that the local government election in the state was scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022, by the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC).

This is in spite of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) opposition, which started legal action to stop the practise.

The sole political party that took part in the election was the All Progressive Congress (APC) chapter in Osun State.

The ballot is blank except for an area to thumbprint “YES” or “NO,” with no party insignia or identity.

Due to the public holidays, which restricted movement, and the fact that few voters came out to exercise their right to vote, the voting process began at around 9am, and the streets were packed with curious bystanders who stayed at home.

Additionally, the administration warned commuters that travels across the state would be restricted on Saturday from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

It had previously been reported that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) chapter in Osun State has declared it will not take part in the local government elections.
