Assistant Inspector-General of Police, FCID Annex Alagbon, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, on Thursday visited His Royal Majesty, the Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo Kingdom, Ogun State, Oba Barr. Samuel Olufemi Ojugbele, as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with traditional institutions.
The visit was to felicitate with the monarch on his 25th Coronation Anniversary and was attended by members of the royal council, princes, queens, kingmakers, youth leaders, clergy and sister security agencies.
AIG Akpanudom thanked the Kabiyesi for the warm reception, saying human relations and sustained engagement with traditional rulers remain critical to effective policing. He noted that he chose to visit ahead of the anniversary due to official engagements that may prevent him from attending the main celebration, and commended Ilogbo community for maintaining peace.
He reaffirmed the commitment of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu to people-centric policing, stressing that sustainable security requires collective responsibility and police-community cooperation. He also lauded the monarch for constructing a police division for Ogun State Command and acknowledged CP General Investigation, CP Adebola Ojugbele, for promoting cordial relations with traditional institutions.
Responding, Oba Ojugbele described the visit as a sign of respect for tradition and commitment to community policing, urging legal practitioners and stakeholders to collaborate with police rather than adopt adversarial positions. He emphasized accountability, timely feedback on cases to build public confidence, improved welfare for officers including insurance and housing, and community participation in police funding.
The monarch presented autographed copies of his book, _My Life with Destiny_, to the AIG and his team. The engagement ended with presentation of a commemorative plaque and group photograph, underscoring the FCID Annex’s commitment to strengthening public trust and peace building.
