Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (ADC), has joined Nigerian students in protesting the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUUongoing )’s strike. The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had previously announced its intention to shut down all international airports due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet ASUU’s demand.
In continuation of their protest, students on Monday disrupted normal activities by blocking the road leading to Lagos International Airport before proceeding to the airport itself.
Students defied the heavy rain to block the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway in order to protest the indefinite ASUU strike that has lasted seven months.

In a show of solidarity, the ADC Presidential candidate also joined the students.
While at the protest, Sowore said it was important for the students to intensify their action saying, “this is your struggle.”
The students who were happy at his show of support cheered him on.
He said, “I am a comrade and I remain a comrade forever, anything you need from us, let us know, but this is your struggle.
“Nigerian students delivered independence to Nigeria in 1960, after this, they hijacked it and started using it against us. Nigerian students delivered the democracy we have today in in 1999, but when they flog people, it is the same us that they flog.”
He urged drivers, traders and well-meaning Nigerians to support the students’ struggle.
