The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, CRAN, has applauded the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, and officers of the Nigeria Police Force for delivering a peaceful and credible election in Osun State. In a statement signed by CRAN President, Olalekan Olabulo, the association said the election was held amid high political tension, but the Police and other security agencies ensured order, safety of voters, and protection of the electoral process.

CRAN specifically praised the strategic deployment of personnel, early identification and management of flashpoints, and the discipline shown by officers throughout the polls. The group noted that intelligence-driven policing and restraint helped prevent violence, proving that professionalism and firmness without excessive force remain the foundation of effective electoral security.

The association called on the Nigeria Police Force to maintain the standard in future elections and strengthen collaboration with INEC, other security agencies, political stakeholders, civil society and the media. It also urged politicians and their supporters to embrace peace and avoid inflammatory rhetoric. CRAN said the Osun election should serve as a benchmark, and advised security agencies to build on the gains by reviewing lessons from the exercise to improve Nigeria’s democratic process.
