LAGOS — The Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Lagos, says it received 1,816 complaints between June 25 and September 18, 2026, concluding 24 cases in court while others are at various stages of investigation. The review was presented by AIG Simeon Akpanudom, who said nine cases were referred to other commands and four classified as civil matters, while INTERPOL rescued 36 human trafficking victims.
Among major breakthroughs, operatives arrested four suspects — Abuchi Odikemere, 29; Anyanwu Emmanuel, 28; Kayode Segun, 28; and Emmanuel Chineku, 17 — for allegedly vandalising ATC Telecommunications infrastructure valued at N150m across Lagos and the South-East. Recovered items included 52 solar batteries and surveillance cameras. In a separate case, police nabbed three men and a woman for breaking into a phone shop at Ogudu Roundabout, Ojota, on May 19 and stealing phones and accessories worth N20m. The suspects reportedly sold most items to a transborder receiver.
The Annex also arrested two women in Uyo, Idorenyin Umoh and Fineness Monday Esu, for allegedly circulating a fake notice that Access Bank would shut down from September 23. Police said the message was posted in a WhatsApp group “Queendom” and shared on Facebook to over 12,000 followers. Both were arraigned at the Federal High Court on charges of false publication and economic sabotage. AIG Akpanudom reaffirmed commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and combating fraud.
