Five persons who were arrested for allegedly engaging in oil theft , in the Itolu community, Lekki waterways in Lagos by operatives of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operations Base(FOB), Lekki, have been handed over to the Lagos State Police Command.
Speaking at the hand over of the suspects at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja, the Commander of NNS BEEECROFT, Commodore Kolawale Oguntuga, said that the suspects were detected by Naval operatives who heard a gun shot and responded to a distress call from youths in the area. In the swift move, the suspects were apprehended while their accomplices escaped in two wooden boats.
According to Commodore Oguntuga, the operatives recovered a boat engine along with the suspects who were kitted in Tantita Security Pipeline Surveillance outfits. The wooden boat with the suspects also had Eleven “1000 litres Geepee tanks” laden with products suspected to be stolen crude oil.
The handover of the suspects by the Navy to the Police is part of the synergized efforts of security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality, for further investigation and prosecution concluded Commodore Kolawale Oguntuga.
The Commissioner Of Police, Lagos Police Command, CP Idowu Owohunwa, received the suspects and exhibits while commending the Nigerian Navy for their collaboration with the Police Force. He said the investigation would continuous as they would track down the other gang members who are at large.
