LAGOS — Lagos State Deputy Governor and APC governorship candidate, Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, says his administration will prioritise safety, environmental reform, child protection, healthcare and education if elected in 2027. Appearing on TVC’s Journalist Hangout on Monday for the “Race to 2027 Lagos Governorship Election,” Hamzat said the first task would be reorganising land use, drainage and infrastructure, alongside strengthening intelligence-driven security to ensure Lagosians can move and return home safely.
A central pillar of his plan is human capital. Hamzat promised to enact a child welfare law mandating that every child under 18 in Lagos be in school or skills training, and to train one million residents in digital and tech skills over four years. He said 71 training hubs are already being set up across the state to deliver courses in AI, cybersecurity, blockchain, database design and chatbots, with certifications in 3 to 6 months. “Technology training is the skill,” he noted, adding that Lagos must leverage its status as Nigeria’s startup hub so young people can access global jobs remotely.
The Deputy Governor also outlined plans to expand transport with 77 electric ferries, a major water hub at Oworonshoki and wider rail networks, while scaling up waste-to-energy projects and clearing drains with technology to tackle flooding. On health, he pledged more bed spaces and stronger maternal care in general hospitals, and on social welfare, expanded shelters for victims of domestic violence. Hamzat further promised to cut food costs through logistics hubs and storage facilities, and to continue deploying smart cameras and command centres to support rapid emergency response across Lagos.
