Lecturers under the aegis of the Joint Academic Staff Unions of Tertiary Institutions (JASUTI) comprising of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) Ilorin, Oro, Lafiagi and the Colleges of Legal and Allied Institutions Academic Staff Union (COLAASU) have embarked on indefinite strike to press home their agelong demands from the Kwara State government.

 

The Interim Chairman of JASUTI, Olasinde Balikis disclosed this during a protest at the Ilorin campus of the college of Education to draw the attention of the state government to their needs which she noted border around failed implementation of the new Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Salary Structure (CONPCASS) among other demands.

 

Normal vehicular movement along the Kwara State College of Education road was hindered by the protesting lecturers of the three colleges of education in Ilorin, Oro, Lafiagi and members of the Colleges of Legal and Allied Institutions Academic Staff Union (COLAASU)

Their demand according to the State Chairman, Balikis Olasinde centers around the failure of kwara state government to implement the new CONPCASS with arrears from January 2022, domestication and proper implementation of 65 years retirement age, the lecturers also maintained that they are facing great hardship occasioned by increase in the cost of goods and services as the present take home pay is grossly insufficient to make ends meet.

 

Meanwhile the management of the affected institutions are appealing to the lecturers to rescind their decision.

 

The appeal by the lecturers is for the state governor to give their plight the deserving attention by meeting with the unions to resolve the issues raised.
