A pro democracy group in kwara state, Kwara must change has scored the performance of the 24 members of the current 9th Kwara State House of Assembly below average in the areas of their primary assignment of representation, legislative advancement, executive oversight and constituency outreach.

The lead researcher and convener of the group, Abdulrazaq Hamzat disclosed this at a news conference in Ilorin the Kwara State capital during a media presentation of legislative watch assessment report between June 2020 and June 2021 where he noted that all members of the state house of assembly fall below pass mark of 70%.

It is believed by many across Nigeria that the quality of government projects being executed in this republic can not match those of the past and even those of the military era, this they say is largely due to poor legislative activities particularly in oversight

The need for this effective legislative oversight is what prompted the Kwara must change group to assess the performance of the members of the three legislative houses, Senate, federal house of representatives and the kwara state house of assembly.

Kwara must change as a pro-democracy group also wants the state legislatures to function as the responsibility giving to them by the constitution is to enable them guide government.

The group believes that legislative watch is a tool for good governance and not politics urging lawmakers in the state to see it as an opportunity to deepen democracy.
