Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has commissioned the newly renovated Operational Base of the Violent Crime Response Unit, VCRU, on Ijora Olopa Oto Road, behind the LAWMA Office, Lagos. At the same event, the Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, presented five operational vehicles, 1,200 raincoats, and 1,000 operational boots to strengthen the Command’s capacity and improve officer welfare and safety. The VCRU, a flagship initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, serves as a specialized tactical unit for rapid, intelligence-led deployment to high-risk incidents and violent crimes across the state.
The commissioning drew key stakeholders including LSSTF Executive Secretary Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan; the Ojora of Ijora Kingdom, HRH Oba AbdulFatai Aromire; Aare Onikoyi of Yorubaland, Aare Tomori Williams; NYCN Lagos Chairman Engr. Olalekan Adigun; SIAF Founder Dr. Segun Awosanya; PCRC Lagos Chairman Apostle Kehinde Sowemimo; Area Commanders; and senior officers. CP Fatai said policing succeeds through collaboration and shared responsibility, and restated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led, technology-driven, and proactive policing to prevent crime and secure lives and property.
The Commissioner thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State Government, and LSSTF for their consistent investment in policing infrastructure, saying the upgraded base and new logistics will boost responsiveness to emerging threats. He also appreciated Lagosians for their continued support and assured residents that the Command remains resolute in making Lagos safer and more secure.
