Dr Obafemi Hamzat, the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, on Wednesday tasked the management of higher institutions to harness the potentials of their various alumni in infrastructural development.

Hamzat made the call during a courtesy call to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan (UI), Prof. Kayode Adebowale, and its management in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The deputy governor said that technology and infrastructural development was pivotal to the advancement of any nation.

He commended the vice-chancellor for the continuous facelift given to the school’s infrastructure, but challenged the school’s alumni to build and support the university in making it the best.

“There is need to harness the alumni because we cannot continue to wait on government for development.

“Many individuals in the society are financially capable and should be encouraged to give back to the institutions which made them,” Hamzat said.

He assured that he was always ready to partner with other alumnus of the university to make the institution top-notch.

In his remarks, the vice-chancellor commended the deputy governor for being very proactive as an alumnus of the institution.

Adebowale disclosed that the institution was ready to decorate Hamzat as an ambassador during the upcoming UI @ 75 Anniversary to be held in November, for his numerous contributions.

Recounting some of the achievements of the deputy governor, Prof. Peter Olapegba, the Chairman, Planning Committee of UI @ 75, said that in 2014, Hamzat gave the institution solar systems.

“Because you have done so well as an alumnus and still doing well by keeping the legacy, we will be decorating you as UI @ 75 ambassador.

NAN reports that Gov. Babagana Umaru Zulum of Borno State was the first to be decorated as an ambassador by the institution. NAN
