The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a Chinese national, Bai Quang, over allegations of sexual assault and repeated sexual advances toward a Nigerian employee. The complainant, Mr. Charles Nwafor, alleged that the suspect made unwanted advances against his consent and later lured him to a hotel under the guise of a business meeting, where he allegedly attempted to force him into unwanted sexual acts. According to police, the attempt was unsuccessful and Nwafor subsequently reported the matter.
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani, ordered the case transferred from Hausa Police Station to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for further investigation. A police source said the suspect allegedly assaulted Nwafor by pulling down his trousers and touching his private parts, and later threatened him and terminated his employment after he refused to yield. The case is being handled by the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Section of SCID, Yaba, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dayo Akinbisehin.
The Chinese Embassy is being notified of the arrest and detention in line with diplomatic procedures for foreign nationals. Police said the suspect remains in safe custody while investigators work to establish the full circumstances and determine appropriate legal action. The Command noted that the decentralization of SCID investigations into specialized units, including the Diplomatic/Foreign Nationals Crimes Section, is part of efforts under CP Tijani to tackle emerging crimes and enhance synergy with foreign missions in Lagos.
