A Magistrate Court in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, has arrested 23-year-old Abidemi Oguntuyi for fatally stabbing his 40-year-old co-tenant, Abiye Friday.

According to reports, the deceased, who shared a residence with the suspect, was stabbed in the neck and other places while attempting to settle a quarrel between Oguntuyi and his brother.

Two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder were presented against the suspect in court.

In the Akoko South West Local Government Area of the State, in Akungba-Ibaka Akoko’s quarters, the incident happened on September 6, 2022, about 11:00 am.
The offenses were in violation of Sections 319 and 355 of the Ondo State Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37 Vol. II Law of 2006, according to the charge.

Counsel to the accused, Adeola Kayode, prayed for an adjournment to enable him to file a counter affidavit to the prosecutor’s written application.

The Magistrate, D.S. Sekoni, ordered that the accused be kept in police custody pending ruling on the remand application, with the case adjourned till October 7, 2022, for a ruling.
