The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has destroyed 329,865.585 kilograms of seized illicit drugs with an estimated street value of N301.05 billion in Lagos. The court-ordered exercise, carried out on Monday, August 17, 2026 at Navy Town, Ojo, covered concluded cases and abandoned consignments. Out of the total, 246,864.535kg were recovered by the Lagos Strategic Command between April 2025 and May 2026, while 83,001.05kg came from MMIA, Tincan, Apapa, Marine Command and a Special Operations Unit. The consignment included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, cannabis strains such as Canadian Loud and skunk, tramadol, codeine syrup, ephedrine, other opioids and khat.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, Rtd, said the destruction shows Nigeria’s determination to deny criminal networks the resources to thrive. He noted that drug trafficking fuels addiction, crime, and insecurity, and also finances terrorism and violent extremism. Marwa warned drug barons and financiers that “the long arm of the law will reach you,” and pledged the Agency will remain relentless in dismantling cartels and cutting off their financial base. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Judiciary, Lagos State Government, the military, other security agencies and partners for their support, and urged parents, schools, religious leaders and the media to join the fight.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by SSG Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the destruction of about 300 tons of drugs as proof of what inter-agency collaboration can achieve. He said Lagos remains committed to tackling drug abuse and trafficking. Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, said the seizures from ports, airports and borders show drug dealers are no longer welcome in Nigeria, and that cutting off drug supply also weakens bandits, kidnappers and terrorists. The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, represented by FOC Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Mustapha, also assured of continued support for NDLEA’s operations.
