NDLEA operatives have arrested 38-year-old Iwebema Ogechi Peace at MMIA Lagos with 7.5 kilograms of cocaine hidden in a professionally made false bottom in her luggage. She was picked up on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Terminal 2 while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Beijing, China. In another major interdiction, NDLEA Special Operations Units tracked a container from Toronto, Canada, for over four weeks and recovered 4,959kg of Canadian ‘Loud’ cannabis valued at N12,397,500,000 during a joint examination with Customs and other agencies at Apapa Port on Wednesday, June 23.
The Agency also uncovered a syndicate that plants illicit drugs in unsuspecting passengers’ luggage at motor parks. On June 20, FCT and Anambra operatives intercepted 467.7g of methamphetamine in a Sienna bus at Abaji, arrested the intended receiver in Abuja, and later picked up the bus driver and a passenger identified as the drug owner. Other arrests include Ikechukwu Uwakwe, 57, caught on June 27 at Iddo Park with 209.5kg of Scottish Loud bound for Enugu; two Benin Republic nationals and a Nigerian nabbed on Mile 2 Bridge on June 21 with 558,900 Tramadol 250mg pills in a truck’s fabricated compartment; and Lucky Abonga and Osas Azamobo arrested June 26 on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway with 118kg skunk. In Amukoko, Helen Ese Idiji, 40, and Rashidat Sa’adullah, 53, were arrested the same day with 28.8kg skunk.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), NDLEA Chairman, commended the MMIA, SOUs, Apapa, FCT, Anambra, and Lagos Commands for the operations. He said the arrests reflect the Agency’s dual focus on cutting drug supply and pushing WADA sensitisation, which last week reached schools in Yobe, Lagos, Kano, Kogi, and Enugu. Marwa charged officers nationwide to maintain pressure on traffickers and drug networks.
