The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has formally taken custody of 6,778.5kg of Canadian Loud cannabis intercepted in two containers at Apapa seaport, Lagos. The handover on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, was conducted by NDLEA Director of Seaport Operations, ACGN Ibinabo Archie-Abia, on behalf of Chairman/Chief Executive Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd). Marwa described the June 15 and June 24 seizures as a major outcome of inter-agency collaboration and a clear warning to international drug syndicates.
According to the Agency, the bust followed months of intelligence led by NDLEA’s Special Investigation Unit and Marine Intelligence Unit, working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Nigeria Customs Service. Container CAAU 7569127 left Toronto for Montreal, sailed via Tangier Med, berthed at Tin Can Island on May 27, and was intercepted at Apapa on June 10. Container HAMU 3246311 departed Montreal on May 1, transited through Algeciras, arrived Tin Can on June 4, and was seized at Apapa on June 22 after being moved from the bonded terminal.
Marwa said NDLEA will not stop at confiscation but will pursue the syndicates’ finances, assets, and kingpins to cut off profits from illicit trade. He praised the professionalism of NDLEA, Customs, and sister agencies, and credited intelligence-sharing and joint operations for the success. “This is what inter-agency collaboration, international cooperation and intelligence-driven action can deliver against transnational organised crime,” he stated.
