— Condoles With Families of Victims Bandit Attack

As the federal government tightens the noose on coupists in Niger Republic in response to the orders of ECOWAS Heads of States ,the Acting Comptroller General of Immigration, Caroline WuraOla Adepoju, has commended compliance of the border closure order issued by the government.

The Immigration CG made the commendation when she visited Illela Border Control Post in sokoto in the course of her assessment tour of the area.

Aridegbe Adedotun, Deputy Controller of Immigration and the Service Public Relations Officers who disclosed this said the assessment visit of was to ensure the effective implementation of
Federal Government’s directive on temporary closure of land borders with Niger Republic “in light of their ongoing political instability” there.

“The aim of the visit was to evaluate the level of compliance with the closure and reinforce the importance of interagency collaboration and intelligence sharing” Adedotun disclosed in a statement on Thursday.

The Acting CGI who expressed satisfaction with the degree of compliance and diligence of personnel as observed at the Illela Border Control Post, however reiterated her earlier directives to all Comptrollers incharge of all Control Posts in States bordering Niger Republic, emphasizing the need for unwavering adherence to the closure measures.
Addressing the officers, Acting CGI Adepoju noted the working conditions of the servicemen at the border posts and checkpoints and promised to address the observed challenges.

“Having witnessed the working conditions firsthand, including the Mamman Suka checkpoint, I recognize the challenges faced by my personnel.

“I am committed to leveraging our budgetary allocation to enhance the overall welfare and working environment of our personnel nationwide.”

Prior to her visit to the Illela Control Post, the Acting CGI called at Usman Danfodio Teaching Hospital, where, she directly engaged injured service personnel who came under bandit attack at the Mamman Suka Checkpoint near Illela.
The unfortunate incident resulted in the tragic loss of two lives.

While interacting with the injured officers, CGI Adepoju declared her unwavering support and solidarity with the hospitalized servicemen.

She pledged to provide assistance to the grieving families during this trying period and made a firm commitment to ensuring that their sacrifices would not be in vain.

She also assured that all necessary resources would be deployed to bring the bandits to justice.

Acting CGI Adepoju further engaged with the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, and also paid a visit to the palace of the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Sa’ad Abubakar III to secure the buy-in of the state and traditional institution towards effective management of the borders.

The statement disclosed that CGI Adepoju received assurances of collaboration and support from both quarters, with the government and traditional rulers pledging their commitment to the successful implementation of all border management initiatives.
